
RichmondCC Announces 2024 Vision Chase Winners
Kimothy Monroe’s business plan for a non-emergency transport service helped to make him the winner of the 2024 Vision Chase competition sponsored by Richmond Community College’s (RichmondCC) Small Business Center.
Vision Chase is RichmondCC’s version of the reality show “Shark Tank” and features local, aspiring entrepreneurs who are seeking assistance in taking their business ideas from vision to reality.

Hayden Named Alumni of the Year for 2023
On Wednesday, Oct. 4, Tim Hayden walked across the stage of the Cole Auditorium to receive Richmond Community College’s 2023 Alumni of the Year Award. Ironically, several years ago Hayden’s construction business handled the water mitigation and dry out of the auditorium when it suffered major flooding due to a pipe that burst overnight.

From Nurse to Hospital Leader: Land named RichmondCC's Outstanding Alumni of the Year
Christy Land graduated from Richmond Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing program 25 years ago. She is now president of FirstHealth’s southern region and administrator of Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond.
To recognize her successful and impactful career, the RichmondCC Foundation has named her the 2022 RichmondCC Outstanding Alumni.

1998 Graduate Wins Alumni of the Year Award
Gregory Thompson has been named Richmond Community College’s 2021 Outstanding Alumni Award winner. Thompson graduated from RichmondCC in 1998 with an Associate in Science in Mechanical Engineer-ing Technology.
Thompson is the operations support manager for Railroad Friction, a company that man-ufactures high- and low-fric-tion composition brake shoes, specialty shoes and disc brake linings for the rail industry.

Innovative Business Leader Named 2020 Alumni of the Year
The Richmond Community College Foundation has named Mark Scott, president and CEO of Thermal Metal Treating Inc., its 2020 Alumni of the Year.
Scott of Pinehurst is a 1986 graduate of Richmond Community College, which was Richmond Technical College at the time. He earned an Associate in Applied Science in Mechanical Design, which he said, “gave me a great foundation to advance my career and education.”

RichmondCC Nursing Graduate Wins Outstanding Alumni Award
Richmond Community College has named a former nursing student and instructor its Outstanding Alumni Award winner for 2019. Dr. Yolanda VanRiel, the Interim Department Chair of Nursing at North Carolina Central University, received recognition for this achievement at the College’s Convocation on Oct. 23.

Former Principal Wins RichmondCC’s Outstanding Alumni Award
Director of Student Services for Richmond County Schools Wendy Kelly Jordan has been named Richmond Community College’s Outstanding Alumni Award winner for 2018. The 1990 graduate of RichmondCC has been a teacher and principal in Richmond County for most of her career and has earned many awards and honors for her leadership in education.

Atlanta Businessman Builds Educational Foundation at RichmondCC
Brett Deaton and his family traveled from their home in Holly Springs, Ga., to Richmond Community College’s Convocation so Deaton could return to his alma mater and accept the 2017 RichmondCC Outstanding Alumni Award.
“I’m very humbled and honored to have been chosen for this award. It’s been 23 years since I was a student here,” Deaton said at the College’s Convocation ceremony on Oct. 25. “My name may be on this plaque, but there are many people whose names should also be on this plaque.”
